Monday Must: Starting the Day Right
THIS IS MIKIE, A SEOUL - TORONTO BASED ARTIST/CONTENT CREATOR. RECENTLY SHE DISCOVERED THE MAGIC OF WAKING UP AT 6:30 AM. THE STILLNESS OF THESE EARLY HOURS, WHEN YOUR ATTENTION IS NOT BEING DEMANDED IN A THOUSAND DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS IS A GREAT TIME TO FOCUS ON YOURSELF AND ON NURTURING YOUR MIND/BODY/SOUL. HAVING A SOLID MORNING ROUTINE HAS ALLOWED MIKIE TO PUT HERSELF FIRST, AND THEN GIVE HER 100% PRESENCE, ATTENTION, AND ENERGY INTO HER DAILY OBLIGATIONS. THESE ARE SOME MUSTS FOR STARTING THE DAY RIGHT!
1. WRITE YOUR ‘MORNING PAGES’
The only space I allow my thoughts to exist completely uninhibited is within the pages of a sole notebook dedicated to this daily practise of morning pages. Writing a couple of stream-of-consciousness pages allow you to discover the thoughts that roam your subconscious, and gives you the opportunity to release any brain baggage that may be weighing you down. Setting off some time in the morning to write my thoughts has helped me tone down my scatter-brained-ness so that I'm able to focus better throughout the day!
2. GET INTO A GOOD READ
Daily reading is essential for me, and a good book in the morning helps me set the tone for my day. A current favourite for a slow-paced day is Tuesdays with Morrie, and if the day's schedule consists of a heavy workload, I've been reading Think and Grow Rich to pump me up.
3. MORNING FUEL
I like keeping it light in the early mornings. My morning fuel consists of a light snack, some good home-brewed hand drip, and my personalized persona vitamin pills. Feeding my body with quality makes me feel like I’m taking care of myself, and that bleeds into other aspects of my life.
4. HAVE A SOLO DANCE PARTY
A solo dance party is a must for shaking off stagnant energy. I made a Spotify Playlist especially for the occasion of having a dance-off with myself. I love getting silly, and especially watching how creative I can get with my moves. Honestly, it's just fun and hypes me up, and serves as a good transition from my morning routine into work mode.
5. GET INTO FABRIC THAT YOU FEEL CUTE IN
Having recently moved into my own space, I've really been indulging in wearing lingerie just for the hell of it. Summer mornings have got me longing to feel comfort in soft, moveable, and cooling fabrics. My Mary Young set has been serving me well in my mornings to self-care and love.
